Today, the New York Liberty took the excitement for the upcoming 2024 season to a whole new level by announcing its much-anticipated theme game schedule, and they did it in style! With a total of 10 themed games lined up, starting with a Home Opener against the Indiana Fever on May 18th that's shaping up to be a sold-out event, the season promises not only top-tier basketball action but also memorable experiences for fans of all ages.
The announcement came through a special video premiered by none other than the Liberty's beloved mascot, Ellie the Elephant, or as fans affectionately know her, Big Ellie. Dressed in the Equality jersey for the Home Opener, Ellie, alongside the Liberty dance team, showcased snippets of performances tailored to each theme night. Fans eager for a sneak peek should head over to the NY Liberty's Instagram page where the video is available. It's a brilliant tease of what's to come.
The themed nights kick off gloriously with the Home Opener against Indiana on May 18th, quickly followed by the third annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Night (AAPI) on May 23rd against the Chicago Sky, marking T Spoon's first visit to Barclays as a head coach. June 9th promises to tap into the fan fervor with Ellie's birthday celebration against the Mystics, setting the stage for a star-studded night.
The season continues to impress with the longest-standing themed night, the tenth annual Pride Game presented by RMA of New York on June 22nd. Quickly on its heels is the Sneakerhead game on June 30th, where the staff, players, and fans will showcase their finest footwear.
After a brief interlude in July for the Allstar and Olympic breaks, the theme games make a powerful return in August. The fourth annual Women's Empowerment game on August 20th, against the Dallas Wings and presented by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, promises to inspire, followed by the UNITY game against the Connecticut Sun on August 24th.
September rounds off the theme games with the West Indian Night on September 5th against the Seattle Storm, Noche Latina on September 15th against the Lynx, and concludes with the ever-popular Fan Appreciation game against the Dream on September 19th.
For those who've experienced the vibrancy of these theme nights in the past or are looking to immerse themselves in the unmatched fan experience at Barclays, this season's lineup is a call to action. The NY Liberty is setting the stage not just for exhilarating basketball but for community celebration and empowerment.
